Project Management
MJ have a team of professionals who have vast experience managing projects of any size and in a diverse range of industries including:
1. Real estate, residential and commercial.
2. Oil and gas, upstream and downstream.
3. Heavy industry, including shipbuilding.

Our Project Management teams adhere to the broad principles and guidelines of the internationally renowned Project Management Institute this gives the Client assurance that the project is being managed according to the highest internationally acclaimed and proven procedures.

A fundamental key to the success of any project is to clearly define and document the Clients expectations.

Upon instruction we spend whatever time is necessary to accurately define exactly what the Clients expectations actually are; we have found that on numerous occasions, during these initial meetings the Client’s original expectations change as a result of our interviews.

We call the resultant document the “Project Charter” and this document stays with the project throughout the life of the project.

As the project moves forward and in light of evolving design development, the project charter becomes more detailed and may change, but never without the specific written approval of the Client.

This strict procedure ensures that the project remains with the original Client objectives and forms a strong bound on costs.

The Project Charter contains details of the project’s physical attributes, an initial cost plan, programme and initial risk analysis. The project charter also includes details of the project team structure and contracting strategies.

The cost plan, programme and risk analysis are considered working documents and are updated frequently.

During the design process we chair design review meetings to ensure, not only that the objectives of the project charter are being adhered to, but also to ensure that all members of the project design team are presenting a coordinated design thus avoiding the frequent interface mismatches that sadly occur on many projects. During such meetings we also promote value engineering to ensure that the Client expectations are being met within the bounds of common sense economics.

In accordance with the PMI guidelines we also keep the subject of risk analysis very much in the forefront of all the project team members. We document all risks and mitigation of these risks be they physical, financial or schedule related. In the case of hazardous processes we ensure that more formal risk analysis if undertaken and play an active role is such activities. For example, Hazard and Operability analysis (HAZOP) and safety case preparations.

MJ also undertake project rescue whereby we are called upon to take over a project that the Client perceives has gone wrong. In numerous cases we have been able to demonstrate that with a new management team the original Client expectations can be achieved, all be it with some delay and disruption but we are able to minimise the financial and schedule impact.

In cases where the Client has no other option than to resort to litigation, MJ have within their team, members of the Society of Expert Witness who have a wealth of experience in litigation procedures and are thus able to represent the Clients interests in a professional and discrete manner thus ensuring a favourable outcome.
